STAFF OF ¡°TEACHER CHANG¡± |

Voluntary ¡°Teacher Chang¡± |
|
The volunteers of ¡°Teacher Chang¡± are
part-time counselors with college degree who enjoy contacting
with people and identify themselves with the service spirit
of ¡°Teacher Chang¡±. They are selected to receive a series
of professional training programs and they must qualify themselves
by passing strict screening tests. Their job is to undertake
the first line counseling services, such as: counseling interview,
telephone counseling, correspondence counseling and group
counseling

Full-Time ¡°Teacher Chang¡± |
|
The full-time staffs of ¡°Teacher Chang¡±
are professional counselors with bachelor¡¯s or master¡¯s degrees
of counseling related fields who have passed China Youth Corps¡¯
full-time staff screening. Their major responsibilities are
planning and promoting various counseling programs as well
as researching, training and supervising voluntary counselors.

Advisory Directors and Organization Development
Directors |
|
Advisory directors are scholars and
experts who are invited from counseling related fields to
help improve and enhance the quality of counseling services
voluntarily. Organization development directors are enthusiastic
persons who are invited to give advice and suggestions to
promote the development of the organization.
Currently, in ¡°Teacher Chang¡±, there are over 1,000 voluntary
counselors, 46 full-time counselors and more than 300 advisory
directors and organization development directors through out
the island working together to promote the physical and mental
growth of the youth.

PROFESSIONAL TRAINING AND
DEVELOPMENT |

Professional Counseling Training |
|
Guidance of ¡°Teacher Chang¡± is set
up to provide professional pre-service and in-service training
for volunteer and full-time counselors, and also assist other
organizations to manage counseling related training to cultivate
high quality professionals.

Professional Training on Mental Health
Promotion Educators |
|
This is to sponsor various training
programs and workshops concerning mental health promotion,
such as: stress management, interpersonal relationship, romantic
relationship, effective parenthood, to cultivate professionals
to implement mental health programs and activities.

Research and Development |
|
In order to enhance professional services,
understanding of social issues and demand of the development
of the organization, the researches are conducted to explore
the youth¡¯s needs, evaluate the performance of counseling
services and assess the effectiveness of recruitment and training
methods of ¡°Teacher Chang¡±. ¡°Teacher Chang¡± also encourages
and rewards those graduate students who focus their researches
on such subjects. The result is an improvement in the academic
level of domestic guidance and counseling work and as an important
reference of organization development.

¡°Teacher Chang¡± promotes a philosophy
of ¡°lifetime education¡± and designs a variety of curriculum
programs for people of different age level by means of workshops,
seminars, lectures, group activities to meet the needs of
every development stage and help them develop fully in their

The Founding of ¡°Teacher Chang¡±
|
|
To meet the needs of the
youth in modern society and care for their welfare, the China
Youth Corps established the Youth Counseling Center (¡°Teacher
Chang¡±) on November 11, 1969. Today, ¡°Teacher Chang¡± has a
total of 14 Counseling Guidance Centers in 13 counties and
cities. Using a wide range of counseling strategies, and with
a focus on promoting mental health activities, ¡°Teacher Chang¡±
assists the youth and the society to resolve psychological
and daily life problems to promote personal and social developments.

to the promotion of psychological counseling for the youth.

Guidance established in the Headquarters of China Youth Corps

All service centers name-changed from Youth Counseling Center

¡°Teacher Chang¡± in Kaohsiung
upgraded from Guidance Section of local Task Committee of CYC
to Counseling Guidance Center and began to offer service online.

-1998: |
¡°Teacher Chang¡± in Taichung
upgraded from Guidance Section of local Task Committee of CYC
to Counseling Guidance Center. The ¡°China Youth Guidance Foundation¡±
renamed ¡°Teacher Chang¡± Foundation. |

Service Accomplishments |
|
-The ¡°Teacher Chang¡± program
has already provided over 2 million counseling sessions. Furthermore,
over 13 million person/hours attended ¡°Teacher Chang¡± mental
health programs and activities.
-The ¡°Teacher Chang¡± program has provided
over 6,000 articles in special columns and mail boxes, and
has been interviewed by media over 15,000 times. In addition,
over 100 research papers have been published focused on the
topics of our service work.
-10,000 individuals
were provided with psychological counseling following the
September 21 Earthquake of 1999 in Taiwan.

Future Prospects for ¡°Teacher
Chang¡± |

-Continue to enhance the
professional level through strict training program and continuous
improvement of counseling services.
-Develop guidance and counseling models
more appropriate to the society of Chinese culture by building
on past experiences and the incorporation of opinions from
experts and academics.
-Expand the scope of services, simplify
administrative procedures and create services beyond the limitation
of time and space by implementing information management technology
throughout the program.
-Create ¡°Teacher Chang¡± into a resource
center in the local community to provide more services by
combining various social resources and expanding facilities
of the counseling center.
-Strengthen the services for business
employees to assist them self-grow and gain sense of accomplishment
from their contribution to the work, and finally promote harmonious
relationship between labor and management.
-Learn and introduce new and effective
counseling theories and techniques employed in other countries,
assist China and countries in Southeast Asia to promote their
guidance programs.
-Provide unique baskets of services
for different population to diversify counseling and preventive
