Voluntary “Teacher Chang” |
|
The volunteers of “Teacher Chang”
are part-time counselors with college degree who are people-oriented
and identify themselves with our spirit of service. They are
selected to receive a series of professional training and
they must pass strict qualification screening. Voluntary Teacher
Chang undertake the first line counseling services, such as:
face-to-face counseling, telephone counseling, mail counseling
and group counseling.

Full-Time “Teacher Chang” |
|
The full-time staff of “Teacher Chang”
are professional counselors with bachelor’s or master’s degrees
in counseling related fields, who have passed China Youth
Corps’ full-time personnel screening. Their major responsibilities
are planning and promoting various counseling programs as
well as researching, training and supervising voluntary counselors.

Members of Advisory Board are invited
scholars and experts from counseling related fields voluntarily
helping us to improve and enhance the quality of counseling
services. Organizational Development Board consists of enthusiastic
people who are invited to give advice and suggestions to promote
the development of the organization.
Currently in “Teacher Chang”, there are over 900 voluntary
counselors, 50 full-time counselors and more than 250 members
on our Advisory and Organizational Development Boards nationwide.
We are working together to promote the physical and mental
health of our youth.

PROFESSIONAL TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT |

Professional Counseling Training |
|
“Teacher Chang” Training Program is
set up to provide professional pre-service and on-the-job
training for voluntary and full-time counselors. We also assist
other organizations to coordinate counseling related training.

Professional Training on Mental Health Promotion Educators |
|
We coordinate various training programs
and workshops regarding mental health promotion as well. Topics
covered include: stress management, interpersonal relationship,
romantic relationship, effective parenting. Those programs
and workshops have helped numerous professionals to implement
mental health programs and activities in schools, work places,
and/or communities.

Research and Development |
|
In order to enhance professional services
and to understand social issues and the direction of organizational
development, Teacher Chang has conducted researches on the
youth’s needs, staff performance of counseling services and
the effectiveness of personnel recruitment and trainings.
“Teacher Chang” also encourages and rewards graduate students
whose research focus are on such subjects. Our work has made
contributions to both practical and academic fields.

“Teacher Chang” promotes the idea of “lifetime education”
and designs a variety of curriculum programs for people of
different age by means of workshops, seminars, lectures, and
group activities. These programs aim to meet the needs of
people at various developmental stages and to help them develop
fully in their lives and careers.

The Founding of “Teacher Chang” |
|
In order to meet the needs
of the youth in modern society and put the care for young
people’s interests into practice, the China Youth Corps established
the Youth Counseling Center (“Teacher Chang”) on November
11, 1969. Currently, “Teacher Chang” has a total of 12 Counseling
and Guidance Centers in 10 counties and cities in Taiwan.
Using a wide range of counseling strategies and with a focus
on promoting mental health activities, “Teacher Chang” assists
the teens to deal with psychological disturbances and helps
on promoting personal and social developments.

were established throughout the nation—in Taipei, Taichung,

County.

“Teacher Chang” in Kaohsiung
was upgraded from Guidance Section of local Task Committee of

to Counseling and Guidance Center. The “China Youth Guidance
Foundation” was renamed as “Teacher Chang” Foundation. |

Teacher Chang Foundation
was commissioned to operate “Taiwan Smokers’ Helpline (TSH)”
with the support from Bureau of Health Promotion, Department
of Health, Taiwan, R.O.C.. TSH is the pioneer in Asia, offering
Smoking Cessation Telephone Counseling. During year 2004-2010,
more than 130 thousand people have been served. |

Four branch offices were
established in Taipei, Kaohsiung, Taoyuan and Taichung. Paid
counseling sessions
were offered by certified counselors. |

Service Accomplishments |

-Thus far, “Teacher Chang”
program has provided over 2 million counseling sessions. More
than 13 million person/hours attended “Teacher Chang” mental
health programs and activities.
- “Teacher Chang” has published over
6,000 articles in special columns and has been interviewed
by media over 15,000 times. In addition, more than 100 research
papers have been published.
-There were about 10,000 individuals
received psychological counseling following the September
21 Earthquake of 1999 in Taiwan.

our training programs to ensure the quality of services.

administrative procedures and enriching our services by implementing
information management and technology that helps to overcome
the barriers of time and space.
- Establishing partnerships with various
groups of people, expanding facilities of our counseling center,
and offering more services in communities In doing so, we
hope to serve as a gateway to other social resources.
- Working with business employers by
offering services in work places through talks, workshops,
individual or group counseling.
- Building connections with other countries
and assisting their guidance and counseling institutions,
especially those in China and in Southeast Asia.
- Increasing diversity of the service
in order to suit the needs of different population.
